What if? What if Dr.Mann was successful in killing Joseph Cooper? Dr. Mann successfully killed off the pilot of the Endurance mission, Joseph Cooper. His next plan of action was to kill of all of the other crew members of the Endurance mission. The only thing that is on his mind is himself and how he is going to survive and get off the icy planet. He came in contact with Amelia Brand and quickly busts open her space helmet and she passes away within minutes. Romilly was already taken care of due to the booby trap that he had set for his own robot, KIPP, to explode. Dr. Mann now had all of the resources to be able to get off the planet and have a chance of survival. He takes off in the spaceship that the crew took down. He convinced Tars that the rest of the crew died in a freak accident and he was able to make it out alive. Dr. Mann was now on his way to the Endurance space craft. He needed to get there to have even a higher chance of survival.
After a couple of days Dr. Mann was able to escape the icy planet for which he had been trapped on for so long. He makes it back to the Endurance and soon knows what planet he is headed for and that is Mars. He knows that it is a difficult task to do, but he knows he is more than capable of pursuing this and being successful and this plan. It takes about a year to get back to the worm hole. Once he is at the base of it the space ship starts spinning. The pressure and the gravity make the space ship and his body as thin as paper. Dr. Mann was like that for a couple hours until finally he made it out of the worm hole. He made is back to the Milky Way Galaxy! He quickly came into contact with NASA and they informed him of a mission that was headed to Mars. He knew that he and the Ares 3 mission would arrive at Mars at the same time. He had to make it to Mars in order for the Ares 3 mission to pick him up and take him back to Earth. It took 10 months to make it to Mars and sure enough the Ares crew was waiting for him, Tars and Case. As soon as Dr. Mann stepped out of Endurance and onto Mars. Tars and Case attacked him with a long pole and stabbed him with it. They told him it was for killing their crewmates of Endurance. Dr. Mann watched as Tars and Case got on board with the Ares 3 crew and watched the spaceship lift off into orbit towards earth. Dr. Mann was now again alone and his only thought process was how he was going to survive this planet. Will he survive? That’s another story.
The Interstellar Martian
What if Cooper never left? Joe Cooper as we know is the driving force of the story. He is the most relatable and hero, but would Cooper still be our Hero? Cooper is only Cooper because he chose to go on the Endurance Missions, he chose to leave Earth and pursue new life. The story of Interstellar would be hugely different if Cooper never would of left. Our story begins when Cooper returns from NASA HQ to his family. He decides to grow crops and stock up on food because he now knows that the blight problem will not stop. He tells Donald that he will begin to create an underground bunker to help with the sudden dust storms that roll through.
Whilst all of this is happening Murphy begins to catch the same cough/sickness that Future Tom and his Family have (original Interstellar). Cooper is now dealt with the choice of either continue building the bunker which will help in the long run or pay for Murphy’s medical condition. This story is no longer about the survival of Earth but rather the survival of Murphy. Cooper as a character begins to evolve and grow again but in a different light. He no longer has to save the world but has to save his daughter. Cooper is now dealt having to give up the safe haven he was constructing in order to save his family. Cooper now balances his life as a farmer and as a father who has to care for his family. One night Cooper is up because of all the stress and begins to regret not leaving on the Endurance Missions. In that stressful night Cooper sees his crops have begun to burn and runs out with both Tom and Donald to help put out the fire. In all of this commotion a dust storm begins to pass the farm Cooper realizes this and realizes that Murphy is still in the house. The storm is able to push the fire closer to the house and burns it to the ground. Cooper with nothing left goes back to NASA and begins Endurance 2.
